Confessions of a Nail Tech x Fiona Cross
Maria MGMadam Glam introduces a new blog series willing to inspire not only future nail technicians but beauty and nail lovers too. By each interview we’ll take, you will have the chance to know & see what it takes to be a nail tech nowadays, how to start a career, what inspires our nail techs, what challenges they’ve been through, what tips & tricks they have for us and many, many more!
This February's interview starting Fiona Cross- a talented nail tech, will reveal her passion for polishes and her inspiration that comes from nature, seasons and love.
Let's discover her story and take a look at her wonderful designs! 🌻💅😍
FC: I am inspired by the seasons and love doing designs to reflect the time of year. Also, I may be inspired by a polish or stamping plate I’ve received, so I enjoy creating a design based on this.
MG: What's your favorite gadget/nail tool?
FC: My clear jelly stamper, as it has completely revolutionized stamping and makes placement much easier and also my cotton claw so I can clean my stamping plates without ruining my manicure.
MG: What do you enjoy most about doing nails?
FC: I love that I can be creative on a tiny scale and hopefully inspire others with my designs. I enjoy reading the kind comments on my Instagram posts and try to reply to each one individually.
MG: What is your life motto/saying/quote?
FC: Be a unicorn in a field of horses!
MG: How many gels do you own? What are your 3 favorite gels from Madam Glam?
FC: I currently own over 260 gels. My three favorites are The Only One, Honeydew & Pink & Gold Flakes.
MG: Which celebrity would be your dream client? Why?
FC: Rihanna, as I would love to give her stiletto nails and create a sexy fierce design for her.
MG: What’s your best tip for getting the perfect manicure?
FC: Make sure you prep your nails first so you have a perfect blank canvas to work on: eg removing all traces of old polish, cuticle prep and buffing the nail to smooth out ridges. Using good quality products really helps, as does a steady hand and good lighting.
MG: What is your go-to manicure?
FC: Purple or lilac with gold stamping always makes me happy!
MG: Do you have any tip or advice to share with our community, younger and future nail techs or simply nail lovers?
FC: There are lots of helpful YouTube tutorials on everything from nail prep & polish application to nail art. If you are serious about the nail industry, there are many courses you can attend. (I’m a qualified nail tech and have also taken courses on Polygel, stamping and nail art using gels). Most importantly, have fun!
