MG: When did you start your career? What do you enjoy most about doing nails?
It's been 4 years since I started and I've loved every moment of it. I love the happiness and the confidence that comes along after doing nails, wether it's myself or anyone else. There's some kind of sorcery to it because as soon as the nails are top coated and cuticle oils been applied- all worries go out the window! Having lovely nails always fixes everything!
MG: Who is your biggest inspiration for your nail technician career?
April Ryan (@red_iguana )
Kirsty Meakin (@kirstymeakin )
MG: Why did you start the Instagram Channel? What about the Youtube Channel?
For the first 3-4 months I used Instagram as a personal album of my nails. I had never used Instagram before, never knew how it worked, all I knew was if I keep it a private account and I don't follow anyone and no-one follows me my pictures will be private! Once I got a little bit familiar with it I found some nail pages but I was too scared to follow them because I didn't know if that would give them the ability to see my profile..? then one day talking to my fiance, he asked why aren't you following anyone and why don't you let people follow you? I honestly had no idea why, I had no confidence in my work at all! But I took his advice and started following accounts and accepting their requests.
A year later I was reflecting back on it but he then asked why am I keeping my profile in a private account? Again.. I had no idea why. I still was afraid because of my lack of confidence but I did have more confidence than before, so after some thought I made it public. I'm so happy to have created my Instagram and so grateful for everything that has happened.
Yes, I do have a YouTube page, my channel is Molly Moo's Nails. I began posting videos that were more detailed version of my Instagram videos but it I was struggling with finding time to do it. So I decided to focus more on Instagram videos. However, I am planning on getting back into posting videos regularly on YouTube.
MG: What's your favorite gadget/nail tool?
A cuticle pusher & cuticle nippers.
Cuticle pushers are part of the basic prep before doing a set of nails. You use it to push back the cuticles and scrape the sticky residue left behind on your nail plate. That's what the white stuff is that you see when your pushing the cuticles back.
Even if your not putting polish on your nails, just using the cuticle pusher to push the cuticles back that itself leaves the nail looking much cleaner, neat and tidy. I always have one close by me, along with nippers. I couldn't live without them!
I use the nippers to cut away the excess dry skin around the cuticles, also as soon as I see a bit of skin that could potentially become a hangnail I immediately snip it off. Keeping the skin surrounding the nails looking neat and clean.
MG: Do you have any favorite kinds of designs you like to create?
Yes! Stamping! I absolutely love stamping, stamping nail art is so versatile. You can stamp over gel, acrylic or regular nail polish. You can use any pattern, use any color, use any size on 1 nail or all nails. You can have a lot of details using layered stamping or just a simple little pattern on 1 nail. It is amazing!
MG: How many gels do you own? What are your 3 favorite gels from Madam Glam?
Okie.. oh my goodness, I had no idea. I spent the past hour and half counting them all. I thought I had roughly 200, but in total I have 603 gel polishes, from which 119 are Madam Glam Gels!
Aaa! This is too hard to answer! My top 3 favorite so far would be: Anytime, Not Your Usual White & Sweetest of All.
MG: What’s your best tip for getting beautiful, well-groomed nails?
Always use cuticle oil to help nourish your nails and cuticles. I'm currently using Madam Glam's Elixir nail and cuticle oil and I'm loving it!
MG: My ideal manicure would be....?
Baby boomer/french ombre (pink to white fade) with a tiny bit of stamping (of course!) on 1 or 2 nails.
MG: Describe yourself using 3 emojis
MG: Which celebrity would be your dream client? Why?
Lana Del Rey for sure because I love her music!
MG: Do you have any tip or advice to share with our community, younger and future nail techs or simply nail lovers?
Never be afraid to ask questions. Always believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind on. Even the best of the best started off somewhere. If you don't know something look for it, try to find answers either on YouTube or Instagram. The learning & researching never stops, things are always changing and products are always evolving. Don't be afraid to try new things, wether it's a new product or a new technique and most of all: Have Fun!!
Enjoy your nail journey!
