Confessions of A Nail Tech x Taylor (Gloss_LA)
Maria MG
MG: Heya! Please tell us a bit about yourself, so we can get to know you!
Hi, my name’s Taylor Gonzalez. I’m a Los Angeles based nail tech and I’ve been doing nails for about 5.5 years now. I started in a traditional salon setting, but shortly after started working independently and have been doing so ever since.
MG: What is one professional goal you have for yourself?
I have a few, but the most recent one is to start focusing on education and training other nail techs. I recently trained someone and had so much fun during the session that I think I want to do it more often.
MG: How would you describe San Francisco? Tell us what you love most about the city!
It’s a hard city to describe, but I’d call it very diverse, multifaceted and extremely accepting. I lived in the Bay Area for seven years and still miss it all the time. I lived there during a very formative time in my life since I moved there to go to college and later cosmetology school. So whenever I think back to San Francisco, it’s always with fond memories. Moving back down to Los Angeles made me realize I really love how small San Francisco is. There’s always something fun going on in the city so its size makes it easy to get around.
MG: Tell us how or when did you discover your passion for nails?
I think it initially started when I was really young. I have aunts and older cousins that would always have full sets done that I was jealous of. My mom would say I was too young to get mine done. The interest and passion returned to me in cosmetology school!
MG: What is your favorite Madam Glam product?
My favorite Madam Glam product is the polish Cake for Dinner. It has a perfect milky pink base and the glitter in it is *chef’s kiss*.
MG: If you were to choose between complex hand-painted Nail Art and a regular manicure, what would you pick?
Hand-painted Nail Art ALWAYS!
MG: What inspired your tattoos? What do you think your tattoos say about you?
This question made me realize the majority of my tattoos are family-oriented. I’m very close with my family so I guess that makes sense!
MG: What inspires you when creating your Nail Art designs?
My nail inspiration comes from everywhere. I have a folder on Pinterest filled with random images that inspire me. It can be anything from someone’s outfit, a makeup look, a piece of furniture, anything! I really recommend having something like this on hand to go through if a client doesn’t have any ideas for their appointment.
MG: Who would be your celebrity dream-client?
I’d love to do any celebrity that’s open to having fun and adventurous nail looks.
MG: Describe yourself using 3 emojis or words.
💅😈🍟
MG: Do you have any tips or advice to share with our community?
Practice, practice, practice. The only way you’ll improve is repetition and getting as many hands in front of you as possible. Ask anyone who is willing to be patient and let you practice on them, do your own nails, buy a practice hand or just do some designs on press ons. Another tip is to take pictures of everything even if you’re not happy with how it turned out. It’s a good way to track your progress and see how far you’ve come.
